The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall is an open fantasy world RPG  developed by Bethesda Softworks and released in 1996. It is a sequel to The Elder Scrolls: Arena and the second installment in The Elder Scrolls series.   On July 9, 2009, Bethesda made Daggerfall available as a free, legal download on their website, commemorating the 15th anniversary of The Elder Scrolls franchise.

I heartily recommend that you watch this YouTube video which gives you full instructions in the description box as well as download links for the game.  One thing I would add is that i had trouble getting the game to recognise the CD – this was easily solved by launching the game using the command: “Fall z.cfg” from the DOS prompt.

Unfortunately this is really where Daggerfall falls down.  Using the touchscreen is quite sluggish and using double tap as the right click is a very cumbersome way to sword fight and although you do get used to it the gaming experience does unfortunately suffer.  Admittedly there are ways round this – i.e. assigning a key to attack and then holding that whilst you swipe – but it’s still only a partial fix.

Until someone figures out a better way of handling the input via a touchscreen on this tablet then I must admit I probably won’t be loading it up much except to show off that I have it on my tablet.

Score: 3/5
